SLWSC September 2025 Progress Report

The Salima–Lilongwe Water Supply Company (SLWSC) is pleased to report steady progress on the Salima–Lilongwe Bulk Water Supply Project, which continues to move in line with the approved implementation schedule. As of 30th September 2025, the project has achieved 35% physical completion, marking an important milestone in efforts to deliver 100 million litres of potable water per day from Lake Malawi to Lilongwe City, feeding Salima, Dowa and surrounding areas  on the way  

Progress Across Key Sites

Construction activities are progressing well across all project sites Lifuwu, Katengeza, Mvera, and Chezi with significant progress recorded in both civil and structural works.

At Lifuwu Water Treatment Plant Site, works are advancing on the water treatment plant, reservoirs, and administration building.

At Katengeza Pump Station Site, the pump house has reached upper ring beam level and reservoir structures are taking shape.

At Mvera Pump Station Site, major works on reservoirs, retaining walls, and the pump station are ongoing.

Chezi Pressure Break Tanks, reservoir construction has reached the roof preparation stage, and pipeline installation towards Kanengo has commenced.

Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance

The project continues to uphold the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental management. There were no serious incidents recorded during the reporting period. The Contractor remains compliant with the approved Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), and all identified issues are being addressed promptly.

Outlook

The month of October 2025 marks a critical stage for the procurement of key electro-mechanical components. SLWSC remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure continued progress and the successful delivery of this transformative project, which will significantly improve water security and reliability for Lilongwe and surrounding communities.
