Parliamentary Committee Impressed With Progress On Resource Mobilization In Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Project
The Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Climate Change visited the newly elected camp sites for the Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Project in Dowa and Salima districts on the 11th October 2024 to appreciate progress.
The Committee visited the Chezi, Lifuwu and Kanyenyevi Campsites where the contractor; Khato Civils, has made steady progress in mobilizing equipment and machinery and establishing housing and offices at the three campsites.
Speaking during the visit, the committee Chairperson, Hon. Werani Manasseh Chilenga expressed satisfaction with the progress on the mobilization process and further asked the SPV to keep the committee posted at all stages of the project.
"While we are satisfied with the progress this far, we employ the SPV to keep updating us with reports, so that the committee is well-informed and able to render its support to the project in Parliament," said Hon. Chilenga
CEO for Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Company; Engineer Valentine Kaupa assured the Committee that the project is now registering positive progress on its key performance indicators of cost, schedule, and quality
"Overall, the project is on track to deliver quality water to Lilongwe City, Salima, and Dowa districts within the project cost, time, and high standard, we progressing well. Mobilization is almost complete and the actual construction is expected to start in November 2024" said Kaupa
The Government, through the Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Company, is implementing the project to increase water availability for Lilongwe City, Salima, and Dowa Districts for social-economic development, and to strengthen the capacity to respond to adverse climatic conditions and ensure sustainability of water supply.
